Rising to the challenge: 30 days of thanks.

To be frank, this year took a pretty sharp turn and headed downhill fast in late summer, and my interest blogging…or very much else….took a dive with it. Don’t worry, I’m not going to share the gory details with you here, just suffice it to say that absolutely NOTHING worked out the way it was hoped or planned for this year. With fall, my ultimate comfort season, and the holidays approaching, I’ve decided the only thing to do is to lace up my boots and focus on moving ahead and get back to doing the things I love- this blog being one of them.

Enter the “30 days of thanks” challenge. I noticed a few Facebook friends posting today about things they are thankful for, and realized that should be my focus right now- the GOOD stuff, the blessings. Then I stumbled upon this wonderful blog by Amber : Au Coeur and her “30 days of thanks challenge.” There are so many things to be thankful for, and I am very aware of my tendency to overlook the blessings I am surrounded by each day. What better time than now to turn my focus to being thankful and approaching the holidays with a lighter heart.

So here we go: Thursday, November 1

Today I am thankful for my two amazing daughters. Seeing their faces each morning full of silliness and interest and curiosity, makes me remember that each day is a gift to me and an opportunity to teach them something, show them some little gem of beauty in this world- that it’s my job to do and to do with care and attention, because if I don’t show them how to be thankful, how will they learn to appreciate the blessings their lives will be filled with? So yes, they leave a trail of oatmeal on the breakfast table, stuffed animals in the path of every walkway in the house, and inevitably leave the faucet on after brushing teeth… and I am thankful for EVERY SINGLE SECOND of it.

How about it? What are you thankful for today?
