Time again to ring out another year and say hello to a bright and shiny new one – full of possibilities. Looking back at the last 12 months, I see a year full of changes and blessings, big and small. The world looks a lot different today than when we started out last January. We’ve watched the kids learn and grow in so many ways, putting potty-training behind us for good with one while moving to the “young readers” section of the library with the other. Last winter’s worries of the effects of long-term unemployment finally disappeared with the blessing of a new career for my husband. We hired a babysitter. We became a family of two working-parents. Schedules have shifted, responsibilities have changed, friendships have grown.
Gone are the days of ringing in the new year in the local bar or even Times Square (something we all should do at least once in life). These days New Year’s Eve means an extra cup of coffee in the evening to try and keep awake to watch the ball drop on television with the kids, who somehow still have the energy to be AWAKE that late in the evening. Of course, since we also permanently turned off the television service this year that means we will have to find a creative way to even manage watching the ball drop with them (here’s hoping that they have that on the internet somewhere).
2012 looks pretty welcoming. Time to move ahead, “Onward and Forward” and all that. Time to refocus and maybe find a few new things to learn this year. I’m starting out with spinning lessons this winter and a new book on growing little “terrariums.”
So first, I will raise a glass to 2011, a pretty good year.
Wishing you many happy returns in 2012.
